This might now be the most popular subject, but the important first step in learning how to dress for your body type is correctly identifying your body type.

This is NOT a time for you to be critical of yourself, but rather to look at your own "geometry". Yes, I used that word. Geometry is a series of measurements and angles that create a specific shape. Not a BAD shape or the WRONG shape - just a SHAPE. A great way to think about this is to see yourself as a sculpture, and regardless of the shape, you're a work of art! Relax, and enjoy the exhibit before your eyes.

With as little clothing on as possible, take a look at yourself in a full-length mirror. No matter your weight, your geometry will be classified as one of the following:

APPLE - inverted triangle, like a Delicious apple, you tend to be broader at the bust and shoulders than the rest of your torso.

PEAR - regular triangle, like a pear, with hip measurements greater than your bust. Your torso tends to be fuller on the bottom.

RECTANGLE - very straight, from your shoulders to your hips.

HOURGLASS - You have equally curvy measurements at your bust and your hips, with a more narrow, defined waist.

Is one shape better than another? Absolutely NOT! Every type of figure can look equally amazing in the right lingerie, when it fits your form.

The key for the apple shaped figure is to draw eyes away from your center. Broader shoulders and a larger bust are flattered by clothing with V-necks, scoop necks, or strapless tops that draw attention to your bust, face and shoulders.

LOW-CUT, STRAPLESS AND V-NECK TOPS & BODYSUITS

CORSETS - You can create some beautiful curves with a corset. Made with lightweight materials and comfortable seams designed to move with you and flatter your assets.

Chemise - With the goal of showcasing your upper half, a "slip dress" and outfits that show some skin "up top" are a great idea.

Love your waist and draw attention to it.

Pear shapes look fabulous in statement tops that draw the eye upward and highlight the waist, back and neckline. Your secret weapon? Accessories like dramatic necklaces and earrings.

BUSTIERS, PUSH-UP BRAS, CORSETS OR CORSELETS - Pull in your waistline.

A LONG LINE CORSET OR CORSET DRESS - Blur the line from hip to waist, making you look smooth, lean and slender.

FORM-FITTING & HIGH WAITED PANTIES - Proper posing can accentuate your bustling with a unique, mesmerizing and super-curvy look.

PLUNGING NECKLINE OR DEEP V-NECK

If you have a very straight figure, you can create the illusion of curves. Paying special attention to the bust and the legs, you can create gorgeous curves at your mid-section.

PADDED PUSH UP BRA - slight to medium padding and beautiful detail draw attention, giving you a rounder, fuller appearance where you want it most.

BONED CORSETS, WAIST CINCHERS & PUSH UP BRAS

ROMPERS, BODYSUITS & CHEMISES - these all look amazing on a rectangular figure. A well padded top will create curves right where you need them!

Such an easy figure to work with when it comes to lingerie - the key is for outfits to be form-fitting. Anything well-fitted will perfectly accentuate your waist and curves.
